Gastric Sleeve after Cancer

Hi all! I‘m a 34 year-old American living in Germany. Last November, I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. I was fortunate that that it was found very early. It was Stage 1, Type 1a, and I am cancer free after a total hysterectomy where all reproductive organs except for my ovaries were removed. On the advice of my oncologist to reduce my risk of recurrence or other cancers in the future, I am doing a gastric sleeve surgery this August. I‘m eager to talk to others who are going through this experience or have already gone through it. I have a good team of doctors around me, but it has been difficult to find other people in Germany I can talk with. Excited to chat with you all!

Welcome, Em. That sounds like a very hard road you've traveled. Many congratulations for surviving it and determining your own continued path to success.

I can't speak to surviving cancer, but I can tell you that having weight loss surgery is almost always a superb decision that changes lives for the best. I also had a hysterectomy where only my ovaries were left behind and once my hormones were properly adjusted, my life assumed a new normal and I haven't regretted it for a second. I won't go into the details, but I think you know about all the changes.

If you search the group using a keyword like "cancer" or endometriosis, you may find names of current members who'd feel comfortable chatting privately with you. Using the "envelope" icon at the upper right, you can send a private message to anyone who might meet your interests. Our group isn't terribly active right now, but it goes through phases of activity, and a good post like yours can really help stir things up.

Again, congratulations and my best to you in the days to come.
