New to this support group. From KY. 13 yrs post gastric sleeve surgery come May 13. Did good for first 3 years. Lost 120 lbs. Believe would have been able to maintain if my body didn't through wrench into my progress. July 2016 woke up with extreme abdominal pains that sent me to the ER. CT scan showed mass on left ovary and I was admitted for further testing. Long story short, this resulted in complete hysterectomy in November 2016 which threw me into menopause. Over the years since this, have gained back 60 to 80 lbs of what I lost. Am working at getting rid of the last 40 to 50 lbs to be back at my goal weight. This is one reason joined this group this morning. It's certainly not an easy way out for weight loss or quick fix as some will say. Do not use the word "diet" either. It's a challenge with much needed healthier lifestyle measures to include every day. Our gastric surgeries are tools to help. My husband has been my biggest supporter and I am forever grateful and blessed to have him. Few things I struggle with are getting my daily water intake along with my protein goal. Another issue has been physical activity due to my arthritis issues in my back and joints with frequent falls. Support groups allows us to know we are not alone in this journey. Looking forward to learning from you and getting new tips and recipes.

Welcome to the group! First of all, losing 120 pounds is an amazing accomplishment, and it sounds like life threw some major challenges your way afterward. I think it’s important to give yourself credit for continuing to fight for your health instead of giving up. I agree that bariatric surgery is just one of many weight loss tools but is not an “easy way out.” People who haven’t lived this journey don’t understand the daily work that goes into it. It’s wonderful that you have a supportive husband and found this group which will help remind you that we’re not alone in the ups and downs. Wishing you lots of success getting back to where you feel healthiest and happiest. Glad you joined us!
