Hi there! I am Mandy and am 2 weeks 1 day post op. I feel really good. I am a lucky one I guess, no issues with reflux, dumping, or vomiting. I was down 12 pounds at my 1 week follow up. On the day of surgery my weight was 283. I have not weighed since, I don't want to get scale obsessed. I just want to feel good in my body. I can walk about 30 minutes without feeling like I am dying although very, very slowly. My only concern is getting all of my fluid, meds, and protein in. Some days I hit every mark, others (yesterday) not so much. My family and friends are so encouraging and I am blessed to have them. I looked online for a few social groups but didn't see anything that wowed me. This group WOWs me. I am so glad I stumbled upon it. I am trying to learn the difference between food noise and actual hunger. I swear my hunger switch was turned off years ago. I am thankful for this tool and look forward to being an advocate and participant for this group.

Congrats on your surgery! It is hard not to be scale obsessed. I used to weigh myself every day because I loved watching the numbers go down, but they don't always change or go down which was frustrating. My nutritionist suggested that I not weigh myself more than once a week which is what I do now. Glad you have family and friends to encourage you because not everyone has that.

Fluid is really important and it is easy to overestimate how much you are drinking. Every morning I put all the liquids I need to consume that day in the door of my fridge so throughout he day I know if I am on track or not. I don't always reach my goal but I absolutely drink more this way, and it makes tracking easier!

MandyS2026,

I'm very happy for you! Congratulations! I share the same two concerns: not getting enough water and protein each day post-op. I love StephT's idea of putting all the water that you need in the fridge door each morning. I'm definitely going to do that.

I drink more water than many others each day. I always have. In fact, I drink too much according to my bariatric dietician. I have averaged 120 ounces of water per day for as long as I can remember. The dietician said that I'm probably flushing out much needed vitamins and minerals. I've always just chugged down 8 ounces at a time...every time I go into the bathroom or kitchen. I always have water with meals and when I brush my teeth and take meds and supplements. I'm a thirsty girl. So...I'm very worried about being dehydrated after surgery because I won't be able to chug anymore. When I'm teaching, I'm completely focused on that. When I'm playing with my grandchildren, I'm completely focused on them I drink water at the times I mentioned above. I must teach myself to sip water (no straw, of course) throughout the day every day. It's a huge change and I'm worried that I simply won't drink enough. I bought several water bottles, all the same, that fit nicely in the fridge door. I just have to use them every day!

I learned from my doctors and dieticians to always eat protein first and to prioritize protein each day. I've learned to also prioritize fiber each day. Moreover, my dietician's goal for me last month was to eat five small meals per day. With a busy teaching schedule, that's hard to do, but I've figured it out. I discovered it is doable! Also, Diane shared with us that we should change up our portion sizes regularly to keep that metabolism working well. For me, these things are helping. I still only average 70 g of protein a day, so I just bought (but haven't tried) protein water. Mine is vegan protein water because I'm a vegetarian and don't eat specific things. I'm hoping that the protein water will help me get that protein consumption up each day. I'm going to start drinking it today.

I hope you keep feeling good and I wish you all the best! Take care.

I just had my first cup of protein water. It's tolerable, at least pre-op. Vegan, upcycled protein water
I bought the raspberry one because it was on sale for 15 dollars! I'm going to try the pineapple coconut one. I may like that one better. It said to mix one scoop with 12 ounces of water. I mixed 1/2 scoop with 8 ounces of water because I have 8 ounce cups. It was 5 g of protein. I don't know if it's worth it long-term, but I bought it for the pre-op and post-op times when I need clear liquids.

May I ask what procedure you had done? Im in beginning stages of getting all the needed test prior to surgery.
