Hi everyone, my name's Becca and I've been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. I was at a healthy weight until my senior year in high school simply because I played sports and stayed active. Once sports ended, my weight ballooned to a high of 290 while I was pregnant with my now 2 year old daughter. I'm currently sitting at 281 and have yo-yoed between 250 and 281 for the past two years. I've tried it all to lose weight but end up getting discouraged when the weight doesn't come off quickly and have recently decided to undergo bariatric surgery after a lot of research and soul searching. The MD who will be performing my surgery said it best in the seminar: it's not shameful to use the tools available to you, especially when the tool increases your chances of success from 5-10% to over 80%. I'm dedicated and miss being active but, unfortunately, my obesity has sidelined me. I'm hoping that by doing the surgery and having the rapid weight loss that comes with it, I can get back to the gym and stay there. I love playing soccer and hopefully can get back into it
My history and physical with the surgeon is on Monday and I'm looking forward to getting to know people in this group and hopefully making some friends/a surgery buddy <3 My boyfriend is having Roux-en-Y surgery at the end of this month so I'd love advice as to how to support him, too. He's a great guy and my anxiety is through the roof that he won't want a fat girlfriend anymore as he loses the weight.
