Hi :)

Hi everyone, my name's Becca and I've been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. I was at a healthy weight until my senior year in high school simply because I played sports and stayed active. Once sports ended, my weight ballooned to a high of 290 while I was pregnant with my now 2 year old daughter. I'm currently sitting at 281 and have yo-yoed between 250 and 281 for the past two years. I've tried it all to lose weight but end up getting discouraged when the weight doesn't come off quickly and have recently decided to undergo bariatric surgery after a lot of research and soul searching. The MD who will be performing my surgery said it best in the seminar: it's not shameful to use the tools available to you, especially when the tool increases your chances of success from 5-10% to over 80%. I'm dedicated and miss being active but, unfortunately, my obesity has sidelined me. I'm hoping that by doing the surgery and having the rapid weight loss that comes with it, I can get back to the gym and stay there. I love playing soccer and hopefully can get back into it :) My history and physical with the surgeon is on Monday and I'm looking forward to getting to know people in this group and hopefully making some friends/a surgery buddy <3 My boyfriend is having Roux-en-Y surgery at the end of this month so I'd love advice as to how to support him, too. He's a great guy and my anxiety is through the roof that he won't want a fat girlfriend anymore as he loses the weight.

Hi becca, You should not worry about your man so much. If he loves you that will not change. You are a beautiful woman and you don't have nothing to worry about. And as supporting your man, Be there for him and make sure you let him know you are there for him. There will be times you have to remind him to get up and move. But you will do great. You will need him the same way he needs you. I am having my bypass on July 15th. If you want to ask more questions just let us know

Hi Becca and welcome to our group. Like you, my highest weight was 290. I met with my surgeon at the end of December & started loosing weight for the surgery. My surgery was on March 11th, and my weight today is 218. :) Still a long road ahead but I'm feeling so much better. Everyday tasks are so much easier. I had RNY so I can't give much advice on the sleeve but sounds like you love being active so you'll do great. Keep us posted. :)

Hi Becca.. I'm at you weight as well.. can't wait to get started although I haven't seen my surgeon yet. We are all brave to make this decision to have this done. Earning it will be even sweeter! Welcome to the club! Before long the ladies coming up for surgery will cheer us on when we get closer. Keep in touch!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, everyone! Boyfriend says he'll still care no matter what I look like, I just have trust issues after an ex who told me "good luck finding anyone who will love a fat single mom" and liked to tell me how worthless he thought I was. I had my first appointment today and I'm super anxious. Scheduled my consult with the sleep doctor for next Wednesday, have the first nutritionist appointment (in seminar form?) next Monday and I'm working on scheduling the psych eval. I'm hoping that the weight loss clinic I went to in KY counts as my 6 months for my insurance, they (the insurance co) said it has to be within 5 years and the 6 months don't need to be consecutive so I hope so. I want to get this done ASAP so I can get my health on track. I'm gonna work on going to the gym, my insurance has a $25/month thing where you can go to several area gyms with it so I signed up for it. :)

That's awesome that your insurance has that kind of fitness benefit!
