About a week after surgery my thoughts about different foods were getting stronger.when I realized I wasn't really hungry but hungry for the texture and taste sensation of a couple of foods I regularly ate before surgery that completely satisfied my hunger and cravings. Yes I was even loosing weight but at a slower pace. Realizing I am not hungry for food but certain taste and textures puts my ever curious mind at ease. Hope this helps someone.

Welcome James! Congratulations on your surgery. I certainly know what you mean and quite often I have to check myself to see if it is head hunger or am I really stomach hungry. I use to do so much mindless eating. I am making quite an effort to change that.

I think it can be more difficult for those of us who really like some of the textures of food and not just the feeling of getting full. We can get dopamine hits from the mouth feel and taste of something, and our brain wants more, regardless of actual hunger signals. It can be the hardest part of this battle for some people, I think. It's the thing that I struggle with the most. I do have to really focus on knowing that I've had enough volume, regardless of what my brain is telling me sometimes. I usually try stopping well before I actually feel full.

I do miss crunchy things from time to time, but I found some great protein bites that are like crackers, so that’s helped a little. I do miss the ease of certain things like sandwiches, but I haven’t had any type of bread yet since my surgery in October. I’d rather hold off on that for a while still.

I too need to have crunchy things. Carrots and celery help but don't really do it so I also get healthier crackers or parmesan crisps. The crackers I get have a lot of healthy seeds in them. I do have bread on occasion. I buy Dave's Killer Bread (the thin sliced variety) and I like the one with lots of seeds. I keep the loaf in the freezer and just take our a slice at a time.

I have to do the same thing. I have problems remembering to stop before feeling the tightness. I have gotten better. For me tightness feels like bloat and misery so I have incentive.

POPCORN! I miss popcorn. I am far enough out that I have had popcorn and it's fine. However, I make it the old fashioned way, with kernels and oil, in a pan. Which is a) too much work for the tiny bit I can have and b) the oil is not ideal. But I guess I can still have some once in a while, if I ever have people over for movie night. Has anyone roasted chickpeas or any other beans to crunchiness? I like the bada beans so maybe I'll try to make some healthier crunchy snacks at home.

Missy, I am a popcorn lover too. I use to eat a huge bowl of popcorn as a meal before starting my WL journey. I made it on the stove too with oil and then of course poured on the melted butter!! I have made roasted chickpeas. They are pretty good but to me not as good as popcorn! You can flavor the chickpeas with any type of spice you like too.

I make mine the same way, but I’m not able to have it yet. I’ll be happy when I can have it again!

I have made roasted garbonzo beans with spices. I also have an air popper popcorn maker. I sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top and it’s delicious.

I love popcorn and my kid makes it almost daily in my house. I asked for an air poper for Christmas that I can make healthy for me and doctor hers however she wishes. Plus with as much as my kid eats its cheaper to pop it myself instead of the bag
