It’s glorious to finally have hope!

I’m pre-op and am thinking a lot about how life will soon change. Doing the normal(?) mourning about portion sizes, foods I may need to avoid, etc. But knowing surgery is coming gives me so much hope! I’ve felt really trapped by my body for 10+ years and now there is tangible freedom on the horizon!!! I’m constantly feeling like my body is in the way and often is genuinely is. I lost 20-30% of my ability to taste/smell several years ago and that was tough. It took time to process and accept, and there was no silver lining.

Surgery and smaller portions feels like a doable price to pay to be able to walk without pain, move freely, even ride a horse (!!) and have a wider selection of clothes. Most of all it will reduce my cancer recurrence risk. I get to live longer!! I’m so grateful this is an option, a wonderful tool.

Thanks for that upbeat messag÷! I needed that tonight! Getting anxious(good and bad) about surgery on Tuesday. Hubby is being very drama king tonight (what if you die, etc. Not helping right now.) Focusing on the good things. Able to relieve the pressure on my bad knee. Breathe easier. I love the thought of riding a horse again, but not sure I can with my bad knee. Nice to think of though. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so happy my post was helpful and excited for you about your upcoming surgery! The way I’m looking at fear of death during surgery is that the risks are way smaller than the likelihood of a shortened like due to obesity. Not only length of life, but quality. My mom lived to 78 but was bedridden and in terrible pain for 10+ years before she passed.

You are making an extremely proactive change to increase the quality and quantity of your life! That’s a beautiful and brave thing to do. I have friends and family who are questioning the wisdom of my decision. But I know how hard life has become and that it’s the right choice for me at this point in my life. At the end of the day that’s the best any of us can do. And you are changing your future rather than play it out on its current course and always wonder what if. Kudos to you!!!!
