Medications

I still haven't started my meds back up that I was on pre-surgery. Toperimate and spironolactone. I could have started the toperimate up right away but since I had a hard time swallowing for 2 weeks I didn't want to. The other i was told to wait until I get my water intake back to normal. I am consistently at 48 oz daily and go up and down with making it to 64. Most days I land somewhere between the two but have been for the last 3-4 days at 64 oz. Does this seem good enough to restart? They didn't give me a whole lot of guidance on it since it isn't a med they prescribed. I have never had an issue with dehydration in the past or excessive urination that could lead to dehydration from this medication which was the concern.

Your primary physician is the one who prescribe those meds for you. I don't know what they are for. But if they were prescribed and are supposed to be taking on a daily basis, you need to take them. We can't diagnose you and advise you to do that though. You really need to get a doctor's say-so. You can take pills, crushing them between two spoons just like your mama used to do when she gave you an aspirin and mixed it in with peanut butter or jelly or something so you swallow it. And if your bariatric surgeon doesn't want you to take these medications, you have to ask why. Do not let these people control your life. Make them explain everything. They are doing major things to you and they are asking you to do major things to yourself. Put them on the spot. Be proactive. I don't know if not taking this medication will damage your health further or even cause you to die. But you need to be the one who is forceful and aggressive in this situation. If my bariatric surgeon told me to stop taking one of my necessary prescriptions, the first question out of my mouth would be "why?"

You are not encouraged to come to a full stop with medication at anytime. Almost every medication you take, you will be advised to wean off of it in a. Of time. I'm just offering you the best advice I can but I think you need to step up and be in charge of your body and your health. At least then you will know if you are doing the right thing.

I was removed from them prior to surgery because of the potential increase in dehydration by taking them. Neither one of them are going to result in me dying. The surgeons nurse just said to wait until up to normal water intake to restart. My primary is not knowledgeable in bariatric stuff thus she referred me back to surgeon side. I was allowed to restart the one med right away but I choose not to because of swallowing issues.

Yes meds get cut in half with a pill cut. The one med really shouldn't be cut which is also part of the reason I haven't restarted it.

One is a migraine med and the other is for acne control- this is also a blood pressure and diuretic which is why I jad to stop it until I was up to water intake again. Neither are life or death situations, I dont NEED to take either it just helps curb the medical issues it treats.

I meet with the dietician this week so I will talk to her and call my doc to see if i can restart at full dose or if i have to work my way up.
