Hey everyone, new to posting here, but I’ve been following since beginning this journey this past spring. I’ve done everything required, have insurance approval and finally a surgery date for September 21st. Now I’m starting to get nervous and hope I have realistic expectations about doing this and that I’m not making a drastic decision. Besides a BMI of 40 and a new diagnosis of mild sleep apnea, I’m pretty healthy. My main reasons for doing this is that I’m an ER nurse and Covid scared the shit out of me these past 2.5 years. I also have chronic hip/leg/foot pain from being overweight/job, and the inability to keep weight off my entire life, as well as hitting the menopause and am now on an anti-anxiety/depressant for most likely Covid PTSD.
As I write that out, maybe I’m not as healthy as I think

Hello and welcome. First: Thank you for your exhausting efforts on working through COVID! I have nurses in my family and close friends. I also know a few of them were completely broken by COVID. So again. THANK YOU!
Secondly, good luck on your journey. This is a good group with a lot of experience, so read and ask away.
Although, I will say it is quite dead. People will answer you but overall it is a quiet group. I wish it was more active, I have joined other support groups that engage a lot more and I like it.

Welcome! I am also in health care, and COVD was certainly a motivator for me as well to pull the trigger on having bariatric surgery, although not the primary one. I am about 6 months out (surgery 1/21/22) and have had zero regrets. Like you, I considered myself pretty healthy, and on paper I was, except for the weight. You are going to be thrilled by how good your body feels after a shift post surgery - much less back/feet/leg pain. This is not a drastic decision you are making - it is smart, and responsible and you should be proud of it.

I would love to have any suggestions on how to make any improvements to our group. I love what I read & learn here, but it certainly would be more helpful if we were more active. BTW, this is the only group I belong to. Thank you for any ideas.

This is also the only group I belong to, Karen. The fact is many of us who are on here regularly are pretty much in the maintenance phase. Therefore, not much interesting is going on. lol I pretty much stay within the same 5lbs, freak out if I go over and start tracking til I get back to where I want to be. So, not much to report or share. But I am always willing to share my experience with those looking for input.
