Hello!
My name is Amy! I am 28 years old and am new to this journey. As many of you, I tried literally everything. I have been overweight my whole life. I finally bit the bullet and had my first consult on Monday. My surgery is scheduled for July 29th this year. They had to schedule me far out due to COVID-19 but at least that gives me plenty of time to get all my other appointments done. I already had my first therapy appointment and have my first nutritionist appt scheduled for the 20th.

If anyone has any tips or advice for a newbie I'd love to hear! I will be having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

Hi Amy ! Congratulations hope this virus doesn’t last longer than July . I had the bypass all I can say is if you’re trying to lose weight before your surgery keep it up. Drink lots of water and walk practice eating slowly ( one of my mistakes) and driing every half hour. That’s what yo have to look forward to. Wish you well .

Welcome Amy, we're happy to meet you. Like Bill, I also had RNY Gastric Bypass but many here have had great success with VSG. You're young, so you have a lot on your side, I anticipate great results! Poke around the site, almost any questions you have, have been answered at some point (possibly many times over). If you have anything specific on your mind, always feel free to start a discussion, we're an open and very welcoming group. :)

Welcome and Congratulations!!!

I had the sleeve, and it was smooth sailing. I'm 66. I'm glad you are young and getting this done. You have your whole wonderful life ahead of you. The biggest thing you can prepare for is to lasso Fat Brain, which is the eating disorder that drives you eating. The surgery does not take that away. It takes away the capacity that you can eat.
One suggestion that helps me now is to track everything I eat on an app. I use Sparkpeople. Others use My Fitness Pal, etc. If I don't track, I have no accountability and have no idea how I'm eating.

Hi, I just joined today and am scheduled to have the gastric bypass. My mom had it about 5 years ago and did extremely well even without following the orders to a T. I’m excited, but nervous and hopeful that this is a means to an end for me. I just want to enjoy life without this excess weight, and live to the fullest. I’m currently scheduled for April 27th, and that was just given to me on Wednesday last week, so I’m not sure if it’ll be postponed or not, but I am hopeful.

Good luck to Amy H and PinknFlawless.
My tips would be other than said above is that if you drink carbonated beverages (even diet) then start weening off of them. That was one of the hardest things for me to give up.
Being that I had a few months to prepare, I did it in steps, started with the soda, next week sweets, then breads.
I felt like it was not as difficult to give up things in stages instead of all at one time.
