November 30-Day Challenge

Friday - Day 5

Food plan:
Yes
Protein: Yes
Water: Yes
Exercise/Movement: Yes
Habit tracker: 14/14

Gratitude - Place:
3Mom is right, there is no place like home and I am very grateful for it. It's nothing fancy, not big, not perfect but it is ours! It keeps us warm in the winter and cool in the summer and has a good roof over our heads. After seeing so many people lose their homes from fire, flooding, hurricanes and tornados I feel blessed to have my home.

But if I were to pick a place outside my home, I am grateful for the ocean. That is my happy place! Whenever I go there my senses just takes it all in and I feel instantly refreshed.

Day 5

Water:
80 oz
Protein: 30g
Movement: did some line dancing, including the Electric Slide during our day-long chili fest. My hips & legs ached later on, but it sure was fun!
Gratitude: (Place) Definitely my home. Same sentiments as above: warm, safe, and dry, and full of love.

Day 6
Protein
: 40-really falling short the past couple days but not letting it bring me down too much
Water: 64
Intentional movement: yes and now my back hurts lol
Gratitude day 3 pair of shoes: This one is funny, but when you’re overweight shoes are crazy important. I was going to pick a pair of my comfy house shoes, but I changed my mind. I’m really grateful for my newish boots! They’re a size smaller than I’ve been wearing because my feet shrunk too!

Day 6 - Saturday
I usually don't post my results until the following day but I had my Covid booster today and I just might wind up with side effects overnight like I did the last time and if so will probably not feel great tomorrow.

Gratitude: Shoes
The shoes that literally changed my life are my Dwags Z Sandals. They are like tires on your feet. If anyone has planters fasciitis or foot pain, these are the best! I wear them all day around the house and when weather permits, outside. They come in a tpn of colors and cool patterns.

They have other shoes to and I think I will branch out and try them.

I gave Diane a stick to poke me with to make sure I kept up with the November challenge. I sure hope she is gentle with it because I am already in a lot of pain. I will get caught up with the challenge as soon as I can.

Last night when I got up to go to the bathroom after taking a few steps I started to feel lightheaded, the next thing I knew Jack was trying to pick me up off the bathroom floor. I had landed face first on the bathroom floor. My nose and mouth broke my fall. We went to the ER. (This was my 61st birthday!) I ended up with 8 stitches in my lip, a fractured nose, a chipped tooth, several loose teeth (this is going to cost a fortune in dental work), too many aches and pains to count. I spent 13 hours in the ER, went through test after test after test. This old lady is beaten, bloodied, bruised and tired. So please don't poke too hard Diane!

Oh no!! Take your time healing! Give yourself some grace and time.

(((((((Kathi))))))) That is NOT a way to celebrate your birthday, I am so sorry. This is a time to care for yourself and heal so don't worry about keeping up with the challenge. Do your best but give yourself grace. Happy Belated birthday my friend and speedy recovery.

Day 7 - Sunday

Day 7-8

I actually am tracking, just not keeping up with the sharing on this thread.

I did my weekly Monday weigh-in this morning. I've been steadily losing about 1/2 to 1.5 lbs weekly with the same basic protein amts, veggies, a bit of carbs, 64-80 oz water, etc (plus all the vitamins daily).

So imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale this morning. Last week I was 186.8. Today I was 176.4. How in the world could anyone either gain or lose 10 lbs in 1 week?

I've been in a state of shock all day, trying to believe I've made it to a total loss of 57.6 in 4 months (pretty reasonable to lose about 15 lbs per month) and at the same time thinking about this crazy one week drop.

So does my body go back to a pound or so loss weekly? Please help me figure this one out.

Karen, that's not unthinkable. Sometimes the body holds on to weight because it's afraid it's starving. Once the loss is perceived as healthy, SWOOOOOOSH! There it goes. If you study up on "starvation response," you'll find a logical explanation.

Congratulations on your loss, and especially, for sticking to a nutritional plan that works for you.
Thank you for the "SWOOOOOSH." :D The starvation response makes sense. I guess my nutritional plan is working, as you say. It just looked so crazy when I saw that # on the scale.

Trying to figure out how the human body works defies science or math, esp. when weight loss is involved. X # of calories in, Y amount of calories burned, doesn't necessarily mean Z # of pounds lost. Go figure!

Day 8
Protein
: didn’t track anything
Water: didn’t track but I know I had 3 full 24oz water bottles
Intentional movement: no
Gratitude day 8 restaurant: This one is hard because I don’t go out to eat often, especially now that I don’t eat much at one sitting. There’s a local Chinese restaurant and Mexican restaurant that I really enjoy.
Bi weekly weigh in: 174.8

Day 8

Water:
80 oz
Protein: 40g
Movement: pushing my husband around in his wheelchair, plus lifting it in & out of the truck (yep, gotta rock the pickup in WV!)
Gratitude: our local Chinese restaurant takeout. Great Mei fun, and their veggies & meats taste so good. It's what I ate on my b'day last month.

Proud of myself that after Sunday night not eating a good dinner and snacked on crackers later that night when I wasn't feeling well (like crackers were going to make me feel better???) that I did not say, "I blew it, so might as well eat x,y,z." Had a great day yesterday! Affirmations really do help!

Gratitude: Restaurant
Hmm, this is a hard one as I really don't have a favorite restaurant where we live. So I am thinking back to a restaurant I use to love to go to when I was still working and would frequent them for lunch until they had an unfortunate closure. It was a tiny French restaurant and had amazing food with great specials of the day. It was a great place to escape for an hour during my hectic day. Wish they didn't close, but they couldn't keep it profitable.

So now I'm wondering if I ought to wait until a week from next Monday to weigh myself again. It would be so discouraging to step on the scale, find out that 10 lb loss was a fluke, and see the numbers go back up again.

On the other hand, maybe I owe it to myself to find out if that weight loss is the real thing. IDK

I think you should stick to your routine. Weight loss ebbs and flows, but if you chart it, you should feel really good about yourself. Most people aren't consistent with charting. I think it's awesome that you are.

And if it spikes back up, don't panic. You hit that low number once; you'll hit it again, and you'll keep hitting lower numbers as long as you follow your eating plan.

Congrats! Don't lose faith in yourself!
Thank you for giving me that boost of confidence, Diane. You always find the right words in a way that tells me exactly what I need to hear.

You are right; I don't need to fear the numbers on the scale, especially because physically I'm feeling terrific. I will continue to lose, even if they creep up for a week or two. I am a loser, and doggone proud of it!!! :):)

You have a GREAT attitude Karen! And if it just so happens that the numbers keep going down in big jumps like that, remember Kathi's scale? She was just magically melting away until the scale said "No more, I can't take anymore of this!" :D:p Then Kathi bought a new scale. Hopefully yours will be fine. ;)

OMG I completely forgot about Kathi's magic scale that had her losing dozens of pounds. I guess if I lose another 10 lbs next week, that means my scale is my new BFF (until I weigh below, maybe, 0 lbs; then I put my foot down & get a new scale???):(

Thanks, Judy, for your encouragement. I don't know why this huge weight drop freaked me out so much. In my pre-surgery days, I would have been dancing for joy to see those kind of numbers. Then I would have signed a book deal! I think I'm starting to wrap my mind around it.
