So, I put the warning up there, because one of my non-scale victories is my sex life, and I am sure there are those that would rather not think about that!
I met my wife three years ago, after I had lost 100 lbs on a medically supervised weight loss program in 2016. I was still over weight at 240 lbs, but I was feeling better than I had since high school. And after coming out of a 15 year relationship, with no sex for the last 5 years, let's just say, I was ready to go. And so was she. Our sex life was vibrant, active, and a joy of exploration.
Over the next three years, I slowly put that 100 lbs back on. As a result, my physical activity and energy slowly dropped off as well. Not to mention our ability to explore new things, and do things neither of us had done before. Neither of us really noticed it due to the gradual nature of the change, and she would NEVER have said anything if she did notice. So we just kept moving along.
But now, after dropping 53 lbs post surgery, I noticed this morning that things are changing again. Not only do I have more energy, but I am more flexible and more importantly, I can SEE what we are doing. That was a big surprise for me. I have spent the majority of my adult life working around all this extra that that I was carrying with me. And it was amazing to see that changing right before my eyes.
Other things that are better now that I am shrinking... I fit into smaller spaces, like behind the wheel of my Corvette, and into airplane seats. Maybe someday I will comfortably be able to use an airplane bathroom! That will make longer travel easier, and maybe we can take that trip to Europe?
I also have way more energy already, and don't need coffee to get moving. (I actually don't like coffee much anymore. I occasionally have a black espresso, with a touch of sugar in it. And that has a strong, 8-10 hour effect on me now. Before I was drinking 8-10 cups a day just to keep moving, and it was loaded with creamer and sugar.) I have a standing lunch meeting with a friend every week, and I shocked him today by suggesting we go to a local park and walk, instead of going to lunch!
And what about bending over??? Oh my... I forgot how nice it was to bend down and tie my shoes, or pick up something I had dropped! I am an environmental consultant, so sometimes I have to go into the field, where I need to change my shoes to my steel toed boots. THAT ordeal has become SO MUCH easier.
I am only down to 295 lbs (as of yesterday), down a total of 53 lbs in about 7 weeks post-op. I kind of remember what it was like at 248 lbs, three years ago. Now I am looking forward to that, and maybe even 215 lbs. My body type will likely not let me go lower than that (I'm Scandinavian and most of the men in my family are larger guys, even the normal ones.), but If life is this good now, I can't wait to get down to that. My friends and I are even planning a trip to Disneyland to see the new Star Wars park. Maybe I will even fit on the rides!
Thanks for all the support everyone, this group has made this journey so much better!
