I'm on the second week of the liquid stage, and how many have been truthful to their diet? Like have you guys sneaked in a little bit of chicken, or tuna early on?

Better not to rush it while your stomach is healing. I've heard of some people who have gotten permission from their doctor to move ahead to pureed sooner than schedule but I would caution about moving on to solids. Chicken can be hard for some. Perhaps call your doctor to see if you can move on to applesauce, yogurt and that sort of thing if you are struggling to stick it out. More often than not people have issues moving on too soon and jumping a stage.

I was very fortunate in my diet. The post op liquids were only for one week. I'm not sure I could have done that for two weeks. Good luck and stick to it!

I wouldn't. I was on each stage for 2 weeks, I am currently on stage 3 soft foods. The point of the liquid is to allow yourself to heal, and I am sure you know you need to heal.
I definitely wouldn't jump to very solid foods like Judy mentioned, ask about maybe moving to full liquids or pureed foods.

I did not sneak. I was on liquid for 2.5 weeks and was hesitant to move on to pureed because of the texture, but that was only a week. I stuck with my doctors program because I did not want to end up vomiting, hurting my healing digestive tract, or end up in the hospital. For me, part of this commitment was the understanding that I had to stick with the program for best results.

YES! That is my mindset too. It was the same for the preop diet too.

I did not cheat because it's not cheating on your "diet" it's cheating on yourself. A piece of chicken probably won't hurt you now, but that willingness to set aside your commitment to yourself will hurt you long term. You'll cheat on your "diet", feel bad, berate yourself for it and .. surely you know how this cycle goes. You had WLS to stop it. Hang in there!! It's only a few weeks. ,

Hi Julee, I am on my first week of the full liquid stage. I think about cheating every day, but I don’t do it because I think about my new stomach and everything I went through to get here. My food cravings are really strong, so I came up with a way to satisfy my cravings. I add a big pinch of shredded cheese to my tomato soup and then microwave it. My stomach tolerates it really well and I feel like I’m getting a special treat. My other soup is broccoli cheddar, so I know cheese is not an issue. I’m just adding more of it and it makes me happy!

Missy, this is the "perfect" response to Julee's question. I remember an episode of 1000-lb Sisters when Amy had her 1st Dr visit a week after her surgery. She confessed she had nibbled on a cinnamon roll and had eaten something else solid. Her surgeon read her the riot act and told her about the danger she was putting her body in. Talk about being scared straight!

Julee, you can do this. The world is full of delicious, healthy food. Your new job is to go out and find it, AFTER you have gone through all the post-surgery eating stages. These are designed to heal your mind as well as your body, and this is the time to do a reset from all of your previously unhealthy choices. Good luck and please keep trying. ❤❤
