I am one week post op. Today I feel like I have such a stitch in my side. Is this normal?
I had RNY, lapband removal and my gall bladder removed.

Hi Katie- I had a sleeve, so I can't say I personally have had your problem. I have read of others that had a side pain. You have had major surgery. You need to take this to your doctor immediately if you haven't already!

I had lap band removed and gastric bypass surgery. There were lots of strange feelings the first couple of weeks. If it persists or worsens call surgeon’s office asap. Good luck

Hi Katie! I'm still pre surgery, actually just started my journey today. However, I have had my gallbladder removed a few years ago and I did have that feeling of a stitch in my side. Mine was more by my belly button. I had it checked by the surgeon and he said that the stitch hasn't desolved yet and it was pulling on a nerve. All I could do was wait for it to stop. Which it did, after a week of pain.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kate P. Welcome to the group. What kind of surgery are you having? Or do you know yet? How long will you be in pre-surgical preparation? You'll find all kinds of experiences among the members here. And look through the older postings if you want to catch up or get to know us.
HI! Thanks! I have chosen to do the Sleeve. Preperation time is 6 months, so I'm guessing I'll have the surgery in Dec or Jan. I've been plugging through the site here and I'm learning a lot. :) I've been researching weight loss surgery for quite a few years, and now I'm finally doing it! YAY! :)

I had the same thing. It felt like my stomach muscle was deeply stitched and actually made an indent in my right abdomen. The pain was terrible, but i reached 17 days post surgery and there was no more pain, so hang in there!

I have the same pain on my left side, had the RNY only and I was told the pain would likely be centered on my left side. I'm six days out and I still have to be careful not to clinch those stomachs muscles when I can help it. It's getting better. Hope yours does too.

Hi I’m new here. I am 20 days post op rny from band removal. I have such bad pain on left upper abdominal quadrant. Went to the er 5days algo they thought it was a sbo. Then transferred to hosp that surgery was done at and was told nope. No obstruction from what they see on ct scan from first hosp.
Just that they can’t explain the pain and it will get better. Instead it’s getting worse and worse and I was told not to take oxys. I’m in so much pain anyone else have this or know what it is

  1. Any chance of it being trapped has bubble? Try gas x.
  2. Where my port was from my lap band was my most sore spot. They had to scrape a lot of scar tissue away to remove port.
  3. I hope you figure it out and feel better soon.

Not gas as the pain is constant and it’s on the left side not the side where the port used to be. It’s just scary. I have an appt on Monday but if it doesn’t get better I foresee another trip to an er ☹️

Don’t know why the reply attached to your post. Lol.

I don’t think it’s gas as it’s only on one side and it’s tender to touch and there’s a lump on the incision and one above it about an inch or so. Also the pain is on the left side not the side the port was on I have a follow up on Monday but if it doesn’t get better I’m doing rock another er for another opinion. It’s debilitating.

Monday is a long time away. Can you phone your doctor in the morning and ask to get in right away? This is a sort of thing a doctor really wants to follow up on. But they won't know there's anything wrong if you don't tell them. Your complaint sounds very similar to a lot of others here, but when it comes to pain, don't ever ignore it. Not ever. Pain is a signal from your body that something is wrong. You need to find out what that is.

Is it warm to the touch? If so, could it be an internal infection?? I sure hope not and I sure hope your pain will go away soon.

No not warm to the touch or discolored. Just tender and painful

I been in touch with the dr office. They know about the pain. Saw one of the surgeons when I was transferred and they said it was probably because of all the work done on that side or scar tissue. But no other explanation as to why or what was causing it. Only thing is scar tissue doesn’t build in a weeks time.
