Starting a Bariatric Reset — Who Wants to Do It With Me?

Yes, my protein consumption is good! My nutritionist set my goal at 130grams/day and I use MyFitnessPal to track macros. I set up the daily carb, fat and protein goals and it tracks my status throughout the day as I make entries. Right now I am at 114g of protein consumed. Drinking flavored protein water (Protein20 ordered from Amazon has 20g protein per bottle) helps a lot with this and keeps me hydrated. LOL, I sound like a commercial but when I find something good and it works, I like to share it.

Day 6 of the reset and down another lb! The longer I follow this plan the easier it is. I recommend trying a reset for anyone who feels like they’ve drifted away from the habits that helped them succeed after surgery and want a structured way to get back on track. The reset is about resetting behaviors, hunger cues, routines, and mindset which a lot of people mention needing advice and help with on this site.

Common reasons people do a bariatric reset include:
  • Increased grazing or snacking
  • Strong food noise or emotional eating
  • Weight regain or a long stall
  • Feeling out of control around carbs/sugar
  • Loss of structure with meals
  • Slipping away from protein and hydration goals
  • Wanting accountability again
  • Reconnecting with post-op eating habits
  • Breaking “all or nothing” thinking after a rough period
  • Getting mentally prepared to restart healthy routines
I am going to continue following the reset for another week so there is still you still time to join me!

Hello,
I would like to do a Bariatric Reset as well. I am too late to join you guys. Anyone want to get started on 17 May. It gives us time to plan and get our food.

Day 8 of the reset . . . another pound down! This is really motivating. I feel stronger about ignoring cravings and slider foods which is great since I'm going to visit family in less than a week. My family has terrible eating habits; they go out to eat as though it is a sport and snack all day long. Hard to be around but I am in a good headspace having followed the reset and losing a few pounds!

The key is to not put myself in a situation where I feel deprived - enjoy the meals but make good choices. I also ordered protein shakes and waters delivered to my sister's house this week. I will pack a few Quest protein bars for the flight/trip so I have a sweet snack if I CHOOSE not to eat their dessert of which there will be plenty. The airline terminals also sell muscle milk and the chocolate is delicious so I'll get one for the trip there and also one on the way back.

Those all sound like you've planned really well!

I’ve been thinking about doing a bariatric reset and figured it might be more fun (and easier) doing it with others from this group. I’d love to connect with anyone who wants to get back to basics — focusing on protein, water, healthier habits, and just getting back into a good routine after surgery. It’s not about perfection or extreme dieting — it’s more about creating structure, improving portion awareness, and helping your body and mindset get back on track.

One common reset approach starts with a liquid diet for 2-5 days to simplify choices and focus on hydration and protein. After that, slowly reintroduce soft foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, and other easy-to-digest options before moving back into regular bariatric-friendly meals.

That said, everyone’s journey is different, so there’s no single “right” reset plan. Some people may follow a stricter schedule, while others may adjust based on what works best for their body, surgery type, or personal goals. The idea is simply to reset habits, rebuild consistency, and support each other along the way.

No pressure or judgment at all, just a group to encourage each other, share progress, and stay motivated. If anyone’s interested in joining me, comment or post a message!
Hi! I’m new here. I would love to do a reset. Does anyone want to start on Monday 5/18??

I started today! I'm going to visit my parents and sister's family sometime this month, the plans are so up in the air right now, but they are all difficult to be around food wise - constantly eating out and snacking. I thought it was best for me to start right away so I am in a better headspace when I see them. Anytime you are ready to start is fine, we don't have to be on the same schedule.

This is my lineup for today . . . . I like a lot of variety!
And not that entire bottle of Minute Maid, I refill the larger water bottle throughout the day and have a glass of the fruit punch later at night!

What are the pills and wrapped items?

What are the pills and wrapped items?
Those are my daily vitamins/supplements/medications! Post surgery, my nutritionist had me start taking vitamins. I use the Bariatric Advantage brand - two chewable Advanced Multi EA, two calcium citrate chews and two scoops of Advanced Fiber daily. The fiber is mixed into the small water bottle on the left. I used to mix the fiber daily but it is easier to mix enough bottles for the whole week on Sunday, which is when I also set up my pill case for the week. The water bottles with the gold dot on top have one capful of MiraLax also that my GI had me start taking 2-3 times weekly since my colonoscopy last year. There is also Minoxidil (w/biotin), Collagen and a probiotic supplement that the nutritionist wanted me to take.

I am a big planner and organizer as you can see from these!

I'm on day 4 of my reset. I'm really glad I did it. Each day I've had 3 protein shakes. I mix in powdered peanut butter and banana in or frozen berries I thaw out. Today I tried a vegetable pouch. I also have my decaff drinks (cappuccino, etc) with nonfat milk Stevia. I've enjoyed organic no sugar added freeze pops too.
Starting tomorrow I'm going to try 2 shakes and a small meal instead of 3 shakes. The third shake seems to not agree with me as well as the 1st two in the day.

My 13 day bariatric resent has ended!
I feel strong, focused, motivated and there is less food noise. My hydration is better and as a bonus I lost 6 lbs.

A bariatric reset can help both physically and emotionally. Physically, it helps people get back to basics with protein, hydration, meal structure, and reducing grazing or food noise. Emotionally, the benefits can be even bigger by helping people feel back in control, rebuild confidence, reduce guilt, and reconnect with the habits that made them feel successful after surgery.

Resets aren’t about punishment or “fixing failure.”
They’re about creating a fresh start and reminding yourself that you still have the tools to succeed.

Congratulations to anyone doing a reset! If you considered a reset but have not started, it is not too late. The benefits absolutely outweigh the effort!

Congratulations to you! Everything you said is so right!

Checking in to see how those doing a reset are feeling and if anyone else is considering trying it! Never too late to start!
Yesterday I added a small PM snack of nuts and cheese in. I was thinking about 2 shakes, 1 meal and snack again today. Ultimately, I decided a full reset of a week was good. Now I will be more mindful and keep trying not to add back in the more processed stuff as much as possible.
How are you doing?

That is great, a week of a reset really helps to adjust your mindset! I'm doing well, in FL and staying with my sister's family while we work on simplifying my parent's home as they are out of town. It was my dad's request as mom has dementia and she has started stockpiling so finding things in the house has become a chore. Today we cleaned out 13 kitchen trash bags of expired food from the pantry and another 3 bags from their fridge!

We are heading out to dinner for my brother in law's birthday and I already checked out the menu and will be ordering the grilled shrimp appetizer for my meal!
