Starting the Rest of my Life

Hello,
I am Michelle. I recently had a gastric sleeve procedure on the 18th of this month. It has been many years and a zillion obstacles to get this far. Now, finally, I've made it! I was supposed to have the gastric bypass but my liver was still too big even after the 2-week pre-op diet. I look at it as God said the sleeve is the better option for me and I am ok with that. For the first few days I was very nauseous even with the anti nausea meds. Smells upset my stomach, I felt like I was pregnant all over again. I am not as nauseous now but still not able to stomach protein shakes. I am excited to find this site because I know I am going to have a ton of questions and worries.

Hi Michelle, You have found the right group, this is a collection of incredible folks who are supportive and helpful.
I previously posted I was nauseous for 6 months, at times I used it to help me control what went in my mouth. I used nausea meds which helped; we really can't throw up so much our K+ levels are affected, that happened to me and a couple of others mentioned needing IV fluid support.
I could also NEVER stomach the protein shakes (I am about 11 months out now), just couldn't do it. That funny "protein" smell, couldn't handle it.
Best of luck on your journey, ask this group questions and join us in participating. We get back what we contribute.

Hey, Michelle. Welcome to the group. If you can't stomach the shakes, perhaps try the protein waters. That would help get some extra protein w/o the texture of the shakes. Isopure zero carb makes one with 40g of protein per 20oz bottle. Although, the flavor is .. eh. Protein 2o has 15g per 20oz bottle but the taste is just like flavored water.
Or you can try using a protein powder, milk and ice in your blender. It changes the whole texture, which is what I hate about the protein shakes. They just feel slimy in my mouth. If you grab a vanilla protein you can add any type of flavoring to it, extracts, crystal light or mio style water flavorings, pudding or gelatin, berries, yogurt .. anything that helps you get your protein in.
Glad you found us. Congrats on your surgery.

Thank you for the info. I had found the Protein 2o and could drink them for about half a bottle then the flavor upset my stomach. I do love the idea of making a frozen shake. I am going to try that and see if I can drink them that way. There was a strawberry protein shake that I liked before the surgery but afterwards I couldn’t stomach it. If I do the vanilla and add strawberries that might work. It sounds good and usually that helps things go down. I have been worried about not getting protein down. I know it is a must. Again thank you!! I’m going to try it in the morning.
