10 months out 160 pounds down. I had the Loop DS surgery. Have developed Terrible Celiac symptom...Dermititis Herpeteformis. Anyone else GLUTON INTOLERANT post-op ? Don't know how you aren't when they remove almost all of your Gltoton processing villi. I feel victimized by my surgeon for not warning me that I would be Celiac as well as lactose intolerant for the rest of my life. I'm not a paranoid type personality...But there appears to be a cover-up going on. I'm looking into legal action.

Ajax,
Sorry to hear about all your issues. That's gotta be rough. I understand the Gluten allergy, its reported to happen. The Celiac I've never read anywhere. That's a new one on me. My first wife had the bypass done. She didnt have many issues. That was 15 years ago. As far as I know she hasn't had many issues since our split. Being only two weeks out myself im still recovering. Good luck with your recovery.

Keep up the good work,
Razor

That is a HUGE weight loss! Are you seeing a doctor about your symptoms? I assume you are since you listed the medical problems specifically. But at what point in your 10 months out did you notice symptoms?

We aren't doctors, of course, and you're only asking to see if similar problems are common after surgery. But I've been here 20 years and have never heard of these problems. I did a little research just now and it doesn't sound like weight-loss surgery has ever been listed in the clinical studies as a precursor to this disease.

It may simply be a coincidence that celiac arrived within a year of your surgery. You'll of course be advised by an attorney of any legal history showing WLS and celiac disease.

In any event, I am so sorry you're going through this. My research indicated that there are many courses of treatment that have been found very effective in stemming the tide, but if you have intestinal damage, that is irreversible. I know from my circle of friends that gluten intolerance hasn't been recognized or diagnosed correctly until recently.

I hope you find some relief soon. I'd be very aggressively seeking a medical specialist for celiac. Best of luck.
