Anyone else have this issue?

I’m 6 weeks post op from sleeve surgery and cannot tolerate any solids. I’ve had a swallow test which showed my stomach is not emptying correctly. Has anyone else has this issue? I’m existing on popsicles and water and having trouble getting vitamins down.

That sounds miserable! I'm so sorry you're going through that. I'm sure someone will have this experience BUT I would strongly encourage you to talk with your bariatric team!

Yes, my team has prescribed a medication and I see them again next week. So far I am unable to get past clear liquids.

So sorry you are suffering. I hope your doctors can figure out what is happening. My mother went through this same thing when she had gastric bypass surgery many years ago. When she healed the opening into the intestine healed too small and they had to put in a stent to open it back up and dilate it. Once that was done she was fine. I hope it is something simple that can be easily fixed and you can move forward on your journey.

Michelle, this is unacceptable. Why has it not been addressed for the past six weeks? You must be losing weight and muscle like crazy. I am also on week 6 and I cannot imagine not being able to eat solids. What is the medication they gave you? How is it supposed to help if the problem is structural in your stomach?

Metoclopramide is the medication.

I looked it up and that medication it to treat GERD or acid reflux. That doesn’t sound like a solution. The issue that MANDY wrote about makes sense. It sounds like you could have a similar problem. Just guessing. I hope you get more help and answers.

As an update, my surgeon is going to do a scope next Friday to see if there is a stricture. He’s out of town until Thursday. Surely he will find the problem. Im terrified I will come out of anesthesia and he’ll say everything looked okay. Today I had protein milk and a popsicle. I threw up both.

I am so sorry you are so sick and I pray they find the cause. Sorry you have to wait so long to get answers.

That’s good news about getting an endoscopy, but bad news that you have to wait a week. I hope you can find something to eat in the meantime. Fingers crossed that they find the problem and fix it.
