Good morning! My name is Valerie and I have finally bit the bullet and completed all the steps to have surgery. Due to an insurance snafu, I have to wait until after August 1st to schedule. So far the diet changes have been pretty easy that the nutritionist has asked me to do before surgery, but I am running behind on giving up coffee. I love coffee in the mornings. I am slowly trying to drink less and less, but some days are harder than others. I will get there though!

I am feeling really confident about this choice. I have always been a bigger person my entire adult life and know this is not an easy fix. GLP's are good, but they aren't long term solutions, and that is what I am looking for. What is the BEST long-term effect you've had with your surgery? What is the WORST long-term effect you've had?

I come from a long line of family members who've had gastric bypass. Both my parents were type 2 diabetics, and I am now in the prediabetic range for the first time in my life at 44. Thankfully, I am VERY healthy besides my weight and that has always been the case, but in the last year I've gained around 50 pounds and cannot lose it no matter what I do. I just don't feel good in my body anymore and I am not able to do the things I want to do. This is what flipped the switch on this decision.

Thanks for reading friends! Valerie

You are definitely not alone, as I've heard other people say that their biggest pre-op challenge was to give up coffee. Some people have said that giving up coffee was harder than giving up certain foods! Fortunately, for many it's a temporary restriction rather than a lifelong ban. I was never a coffee drinker but pre surgery I would drink a 2 liter bottle of Coke Zero every day and because of the carbonation I never drank it again.

Premiere protein has 3 coffee inspired protein shakes, that are all delicious and can be purchased online if not carried in local stores; Cafe' Latte, Mocha and Caramel Macchiato. These are the only protein shakes that this company makes that have caffeine, 95mg, which is equivalent to a cup of coffee. Depending on your doctor's recommendations, maybe those could be good post surgery options for you.
