gastric sleevers or anyone else

I am 5 weeks post op which means I am on full liquids and a few foods. I can eat an egg, cottage cheese (never) pureed beans and applesause. I have 2 protein shakes a day and 4 oz of yogart as my other meal. I have had an egg twice and pureed lentils once. I added up my calories the other day and they were 360. I told my surgeon who didn't have much to say about it. I was just wondering if others are eating this amount and are at or around this caloric level. Since my meals will always have to be only 4 oz., I am not sure what my caloric intake will be at 2 months. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Wow Kim, that's low, we usually don't have to worry about our calorie intake at first becase we are getting about 800 to 1000 a day but 360 +/- is kinda low. Call your nutritionist to see if you should try and get more calories/protien. When we have to few calories a day our bodies tend to rebel and instead of burning fat it will try to hold on to it and burn muscle because it believes it will need the reserve, however only your doctor or nutritionist would know where your lower and upper caloric intake limits would be based on a set of personal factors such as age, height, physical activity, etc...

I try to eat 5 to 6 times a day and that seems to work fine, I know you are only a little over a month out so I am sure 3 meals is a struggle, I remember how hard it was, but if you can get 4 meals in a day (including shakes as meals) that would help, the main thing is to get at least 60-70 grams of protien a day and I don't know if you can get that on so few calories my shakes are 24 gm of protien at 150 calories so 3 a day for 450 calories would give me the protien I need, which worked good for my first few days post op. Check in with your nutritionist to see if you need to boost your protien intake. Tom
