So, I had surgery almost a month ago. Went great. No problems. No issues......until last 6 days. I have this horrible pain at very top of my stomach in the middle. It gets worse w a sip of water or eating. It's like an 8 on pain scale. Went to local ER and had lab work and CT. They didn't find anything wrong but there are no bariatric surgeons where I live. Came home and pain just gets worse. Drove 4 hours to see bariatric surgeon. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Please help!

Quick update. Spent all day in ER where I had surgery done as requested by my surgeon. Had upper GI, ultrasound, x ray, and blood work. All came out perfect. I was in tears all day from the pain. This dr. had said her sorry's and goodbyes and then came back to say she found something. I was taking a medicine that should not be taken after bariatric surgery. The combination would def cause ulcers. I'll have to have a scope in a couple of weeks but man am I relieved. What an amazing doc to go back and look for what else the pain could be!

No it was Celebrex for my joint pain.
Interesting, did you have an RNY or a VSG? Celebrex is prescribed to the sleeve patients by the surgeons at the weight loss center that I used. It was to be used for pain before turning to a narcotic.

See, I thought they gave me Celebrex after surgery in the hospital but I was already on it. Noone ever said I shouldn't be or to stop taking it. The ER doc said that it increased chances if an ulcer that is already elevated from having a sleeve. I am on so many meds. It's crazy. The important thing was that I have no leaks or perforations. The bad thing is I'm losing my mind over the pain. The bariatric team that saw me in ER said my surgeon wants to do a endoscopy on the 21st. The upper GI was horrific and I'm wondering if there wasn't lots of sugar in the contrast I had to drink over and over. It gave me horrible diarrhea. First sugar I'd had in 6 weeks. Today really has been horrible after spending all day yesterday in the ER. Just took first pill for coating the stomach. Hoping that will give enough relief for a much better day tomorrow.

Hope you are feeling better and at least you know what is causing that pain. Thank God you had a good doctor that really analyzed your case.
