I am new to this and very new to asking for help, please bare with me.. I am 4 months out of surgery, started seriouly to loose weight about a year ago at 400lbs. proud of myself as i'm down to 277, but this has not been a very easy journey. I live near Dallas Texas. and my Doc is in Dallas, I have done the best I can with following the Doctors orders, all the different meds, vitamins and such.. well just last week due from having a lot of pain in my stomach after eating,(which i only got to the soft food diet) my stomach was rejecting food, any how,, the Doc did several test, desided it was time for an EGD, well come to find out i have an ulcer, but i don't go to see the doctor himself till this thursday. to get full results from the EGD.. the hospital gave me my orders or 3 day clear liquid diet into a 2 week liquid diet.. I am really struggling with this all. I am doing as doctor ordered taking the ulcer medicine and everything else.. please tell me this gets easier. is there anything anyone can help me with?

I also ended up with an ulcer, although much later. It sucks but they've given you meds to heal it. Be careful with acidic/spicy foods, coffee (my downfall lol) do not smoke or take NSAIDs. I also recommend taking any pulls with a bit of food. It will heal!! Good luck!

Thank you dianasettle and missyinacage for responding...yeah missyinacage i do take the meds with a bite of applescause, and no NSAID's at all in my house and i'm not a smoker tg never had that habbit, not on and antacids,, can't stand coffee and lol food,, i only dream of food at this pont,,lol hopen one day i can eat.

Which doc are you going to in Dallas (I had surgery in Dallas before moving)? Ulcers are rough, not just with the surgery, but once you make it through this rough patch and have it behind you, it will get so much better! Everyone gave excellent advice above... You have done a LOT of work, don't let this bump in the road discourage you. You got this!

I wonder if ulcers are an issue within the bariatric community? It sounds awful. I hope every day things get better for you. Dallas TX is my home. However, I have family all over Texas. I also travel full time (past 4 yrs) but visit family back home as often as I can. Glad to have you here! There are so many veterans here that have been extremely helpful (I already see some have commented) so you’re definitely in good hands here. Take care!

Losing almost 130 lbs is AMAZING!!! Congrats on your success so far. I sure hope you have speedy, complete healing for your ulcer. This hopefully is a small detour on your road to a healthier new you.

It's definitely time to start celebrating your nonscale victories, aka NSVs. This may include some or all of of the following (incomplete) list.

Being able to reach behind you during toilet time lol.

Seeing how many toes you actually have.

Being able to tie shoes without your insides being squeezed til your eyes pop.

Zipping zippers and buttoning buttons!

Walking further than you have for years before being out of breath.

Leaving some of those aches and pains behind you, never to be felt again.

Picturing how many giant bags of dog food that 130lbs equal, imagining how you used to carry those imaginary 20lb bags everywhere you went, and knowing you'll never have to lug them around again!

Best of luck. ❤❤❤❤

Congratulations, Lyne. I used to live in Mineral Wells, in a mostly deserted old motel on the lake. I was only there for six months, working on a contract job as a laborer. The best thing about the place, outside the fabulous canoeing on the lake (where the locals thought it was freezing winter if the temp went below 75), was discovering hush puppies. Oh my god. They don't make 'em anywhere else I've ever been that were as good as in that town.

I took ondansetron and omeprazole after surgery for some period of time, but don't need them anymore. Oh, but I'm almost 15 years out from surgery. And I can eat anything without trouble. (many others say the same thing in the archived posts here)

I also had ulcers when I was in my 20s. I just shared the other day that I took shots of pure aloe vera gel for them. In those days, it was free of any additives at my local health food store. Aloe vera heals burns and ulcers. I'd ask my nutritionist, but I cant imagine thered be any harm in adding it.

Of course you're struggling. We all do and did. There's nothing I've ever heard of that makes it easier. I have some coping mechanisms I've used for impossible situations. A good one is to lay down on your bed and bury your head into your pillow and scream as loud as you can, and keep screaming until you cry, and then scream some more until you wear yourself out.

You've done such an amazing job so far. You are going to succeed as long as you remember how amazing you are and what a fighter you've been to get this far. In my experience, only a tiny number of people ever accomplish what you have already. When you've had a good screaming cry, calm down and sit quietly and breathe in deeply and exhale slowly. Your entire body will respond to this and relax.

Ultimately, you'll see what a hero you are. You know you can't count on one hand the number of people who could survive a liquid diet for more than a day. Soon, you'll be able to eat anything you want, but you won't want all the crap that got your weight up so high.

Thank you for sharing your victory with us and please know, even though we can't give you hugs or smiles, we're all loving you from the inside onto this page. And one day you'll be able to tell your tale to your friends and loved ones and shock the hell out of them!
You always give great advice, Diane!
