hungry

I suddenly am so hungry. I wake up cramping some mornings from hunger and now at night I'm hungry. This happens to me typically in the morning if I get up early but not when I get up normal time. I am drinking water to try to take the edge off but I started my meds to day so the water pretty much just runs through me.

In my plan I am told 3 meals no snacks. Here's today's meals:

Breakfast: yogurt smoothie-10g protein
About 1/8 cup cottage cheese

Coffee made with 1/2 cup skim or 1% milk. 4g protien

Lunch: 1/3 cup turkey chili (homemade so unsure on protien)
1/2 of a pre packaged cup of yogurt 2.5 g protien

Dinner: about 1 oz roast (estimated to be about 8 g protien)
1/8 cup cottage cheese

All of my meals made me full...but here I am 3 hours post dinner very hungry. I am hoping its a sign of a drop in weight, it used to be anyway.

Also what is a good food tracker?

Baritastic is a really good app, and you can easily override anything that doesn't seem right or manually enter everything if you don't trust the pre-filled calculations. It's quite flexible. When I've scanned a barcode it gave me exactly what was on the food label of that item. You can create your own meals and add info from a recipe you created an save it to use the next time you make that recipe.

How far are you post-op, again?

I think it odd that you were directed not to have a snack if needed, but if that is all the calories and protein you are getting on one day, that doesn't appear to be enough, but I'm just guessing at what you included in your list. Are you supplementing with any protein drinks between meals to get enough protein? Some additional protein and fiber would help keep you a bit more satiated through the day, I would think.

If the water is passing through you quickly, that is even more reason to drink more. It can do quite a bit to regulate hunger.

1 month. My medication i just restarted is a diuretic and even though I'm restarting it at a very low dose(actually its half the lowest dose it comes in) I was surprised at how much it 8ncrease the need to go. I did find it easier to take in my normal water yesterday. Prior to surgery when on this medication I drank a minimum of 80 oz a day so I am sure I will get back there.

No protien shakes. I cant stomech them. I did try them again last night and got mayne a 1/3 of one in.

My protein goal at this point is 48-60some grams.

I also use Baritastic to log all my intake and exercise. It is pretty accurate. I also liked MyFitnessPal, it has more foods and recipes but after WLS I like the specifics of Baritastic. You can create recipes, so your turkey chili will never have a ? again. You'll know exactly what it has. And you can save meals that you regularly have, like that yogurt smoothie, cottage cheese and coffee breakfast. Maybe you can ask your nutritionist if you can "save" your cottage cheese from dinner or your yogurt from lunch to eat a little later in the day. And if you have an app logging every bite, you'd be able to tell them exactly how many protein/carbs/calories you are getting. Which will make it much easier for them to help you adjust as needed. Hope they get this worked out for you. No one should have to go to bed hungry. :(

It sounds like you are doing pretty good and I expect the hunger issues will abate a bit over time, especially when you can incorporate more foods in the future.

Today I actually calculated everything I ate. I am low on protein partly because to day is a day I feel full but I also switched up my food a bit. Per the calculations when I am done with my smoothie I am at 45 protein, 45 carbs, 12 suger and 660 calories. If I can fit it in before bed and still hit my water I plan to drink some milk for more protein. I ha e about 16 oz of water to go to hit goal

also I see the nutrtionist in the morning and will follow up with her. I do have a few questions about what to tweak as I also have been on a weight stall for about 2.5 weeks and feel like it might be kind of early for that. Also want to check to see what I might need to do different now that my medications are added back in- very low dose working up to full dose with in a month. One is a med they use for weight loss but is actually my migraine meds so wondering what impact that will cause.
