Newbie Question

Hi! Just had surgery this past Monday. I came home Tuesday and had gained weight from all the fluids. So weight loss started Wednesday. Since then I have lost 11.2 lbs. That feels really fast. Is that too much too fast? Input appreciated :)
Congratulations on your surgery! Nope, don't worry about your weight the first couple weeks, in either direction. Your body is going through some major changes healing so it's going to be a little wonky for a little bit. One piece of advice? Try not to weigh yourself more often than weekly. You will yo-yo from day to day because of all the physiological changes happening. Weighing daily could be setting yourself up for a disappointment or giving yourself false hope. I found a once a week weigh-in just about guaranteed me a substantial loss. I've read posts from many members who were upset because they hadn't had a loss for like 5 days or even see a gain overnight. While these things are totally normal at times, you won't notice them if you only get on once a week. :)

Great advice! Thank you!

Congrats and welcome! I had VGS about 7 weeks ago. I agree with Brenda that weighing yourself too often is a recipe for resentment. Although I do weigh myself more often than she does, I do weigh-ins on Mon, Wed, and Fri, giving myself the weekends off.

Stick to your diet, DRINK YOUR WATER, and get your protien. Everything else will work itself out.

I had rny the same day as you. I gained 10 pounds while in hospital with all the IV fluids and since I came home I lost 10 lbs so back to my starting weight the day of surgery. Lots of fluid shifts. Mentally for me it’s odd to see the scale changing rapidly when it barely seemed to budge in the past. Best of luck on your journey!
