I has the VSG in 2023 and was doing really well. Lost about 88 pounds and was feeling great, taking care of myself and putting myself first for the first time since being married. Then, wham bam....life threw a curve ball at our whole family and I turned back to some old patterns and coping skills and have started putting myself last again. I can't seem to get out of the mindset that my needs have to come last. I've slowly gained back about 22 pounds and I am so mad at myself. It's a vicious cycle! I know what I need to do and the family crisis has stabilized for the most part . How do I get the ball rolling again ? Help

I joined this group in mid-April. How are you doing, Rooroo1011? I hope all is well with your family and you are through the emergency. I haven't had my surgery yet, so I can't speak to that. I do, however, want to wish you well, remind you that you are strong and capable of reaching your goals, and that YOU matter! Is so hard to put our own needs first. I completely get that. Try to forgive yourself for the weight gain and remind yourself that you were going through a very difficult time. Take it day by day, use positive self-talk, start with trying to get back on track with the meal where you tend to eat the most each day. Remember that you are loved, needed, cared about, and worthy of kindness, understanding, compassion, and acceptance...that includes self-acceptance. You can do this!

It takes a lot some times to get back on track, but you did it once so you know you can do it again. Have confidence in yourself.
I too struggle with putting myself first, but feel like I am working through it.
I am just starting my journey and had my first consultation with the surgeon last week. My first meeting with the nutritionist last week was a little eye opening. But I started a food journal and that was my key thing to get me on track. You will have to think back to when you started your journey and find what helped you back then, and see if that will help you now.
We are here to support you!
