Looking for a mentor/support before surgery.

I miss my pool activity. I drained it this year for the first time. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice. Going to see about removing leaves on the bottom. And close the plug and see how much it fills over the winter. Pool place was supposed to come close but never made appt to show. After three visits I decided to wait. Oh well. Trying to get a stand for my bicycle to make it stationary. Putting money aside for it. Illinois is adding more restrictions again. Knows people are tired of the precautions, but I don’t want the other and get sick.
Just read the date‍♀️sorry!

Knows it has been a couple of weeks. Been a serious challenge overall. When I did my weigh in, I lost 2 pounds. Considering the stress of hospital stuff for husband then for myself it was quite an accomplishment. The major setback for myself was trying to do too much after surgery. What made it worse was the pain levels from the hip replacement. I was not prepared. Plus I kept over reaching and overextending myself. I did not take the pain meds at first, never really needed them before. Even when I had knee replacement I didn’t have this level of pain. They sent me home with a pamphlet of exercises. Most I could do, but one concerned me the point flex foot exercise. It is causing pain in my foot, same one I have 2 screws in from 2005.

Bad news is I haven’t been tracking as well as I should. Things are looking up now. The pain is under control, I am doing the physical therapy exercises I was given on Monday. I am moving better overall too. You have all been in my thoughts.

Glad to hear from you Roni. I was wondering how you and your husband were doing. Happy you are moving about and doing PT.

I try not to complain that is a part of why I stayed away but in the second week I was able to get more rest than I was in the first week after surgery. I still set goals for everyday but the weather change is interfering with it. Getting older is no fun. Even Queen Elizabeth and prince charles agree.

On other news. You know the holidays are coming up and usually I am close to done with shopping by now. Throwback to Christmas club account days. This year I haven’t started yet. But a friend online mentioned sending her husband to store for winter gloves. Which has tickled my thoughts some. The people I buy for are all adults. Any better ideas I am open. Thinking I need to stay around 15.00. Son wants help for moving with promotion so that will be gift card for U-haul. Only one I am sure of.

Funny story. For veteran’s day my son and I go out getting free food and things this year we went to denny’s. They took our order and when it came time to pay they charged my son’s friend for the meal. The waitress did not explain we had to order the grand slam choice meals as build a meal. Son contacted corporate who then sent vouchers. We are giving to his friend to compensate for her being charged. Son and I both got our hair cut, me about an inch, he gets head shaved bald. Kinda funny when he grew it long before he went to military.

I have been responding in others posts but I haven’t kept my journey in my page lately. Today we had our gift exchange. The time leading up to today has been busy. Got some great gifts, a bell and Howell light for my sewing area, a new cozy long robe, new hat and echo dot not sure about that yet. I am ready to sit back and take things at a slower pace. The 22 was my last day of physical therapy, progress is good but still have a ways to go before I am ready to ride the Harley. I did send off a box of clothes that no longer fit me 3 skirts with tops five pair of cuddle duds and some almost new underclothes to an online friend in Reno. I have assembled a new area in the basement to sew, and I get steps going up and down about 15 stairs each way. I have replaced the backpack my dogs chewed up, after my friend gave it to me to use after hip surgery and I am making three more. I have a gaucho skirt that suffered from being in a damp basement (it is dry now, took out the hot tub that sat unused for over two years.). The gaucho skirt will make a great pattern to make a different one maybe even in denim. I just rescued 8 pair of size 20 pants from the basement. I have some vests that may turn into patterns also, they also suffered in the basement. Time will tell. Nice to have something to look forward to doing for myself. Soon I will start looking into sewing with stretch fabric and making some spare face masks, just for fun. I still wear my masks until the pandemic is no longer spreading. My choice my decision I will care for me no matter what. That will be the new quarterly goal. I want everyone to know that you are really a big part of my life and I like to read the posts. My son is talking about me going to gym with him and his girl, I will look into it. I have really fallen down on my logging of food but I still try to keep track in my head. Stay safe be fun

I to go to the VA in Virginia and in the Move program. My VA does not do gastric bypass so I have been referred outside of the VA for mine. When I was referred outside the VA the closest VA that was doing the surgery was in West Virginia but that was during last years peak covid and they stopped doing them. Well I got covid pneumonia and had to wait a year so here I am waiting on a date. I will be here to help and encourage you as much as I can.

Sounds like you're healing up fast, Roni. I used to LOVE my gaucho pants! I wish I had better sewing skills. When I first lost weight, I had several outfits that I adored and did not want to give up. I tried just re-sizing them but had mixed results lol I guess practice makes perfect and I should keep at it. I also have fallen off tracking so will be adding that to my to-do list. You may enjoy your new echo dot more than you expect, although I still use mine mostly for music.

Welcome glad you are here. I was offered university of Iowa or a va in Minnesota. University of Iowa was basically next door to Ia city Va. my thoughts are with you in your journey.

Thank you. I am making baby steps. I just figured out how to seal the cords on the back pack last night. If my pattern works let me know what size you are wearing. the one I took apart is 2x but I think it is on the smaller side. The skirt and vest I wore Sunday to Christmas gathering was 2 x and kept sliding down to my hips. I had just fixed it from mice damage. Can’t tell that I fixed it. I am dreaming of making some denim gaucho pants.

My one year anniversary is approaching in Feb. my fantasy was to be in onederland (under 200) by then. Doubt if that is realistic. I am wearing size 20’s and 18’s. I am not complaining. I did give two size 2x outfits to my best friend’s mom for Christmas. I set three 2x skirts with tops and 5 pair of cuddle duds to a online gaming friend in Reno. That is a itty bitty start to emptying the oversized clothes of 3x, 2x, 24, and 22. It could be worse.

I have several sewing projects in the works. With Omnicron mutation in gear, I am making some masks and using that to learn how to sew stretchy fabric. I think it is good to start with small stuff. I could be wrong. Some of the elastic I replaced in pants and skirts, I am concerned I sewed the stretch out of 1 or 2 pieces.

My New Year’s Eve I woke up with very painful stiff neck. Put icy hot on with no relief. Husband suggested we got out for breakfast. Got in car with me set to drive and told him I couldn’t move my neck enough and so we changed places. I suggested we see if chiropractor was open. I did get adjusted but I think it almost hurt more than before I went in. Breakfast was changed to bakery at grocery store. I got cannoli he got raised donuts. At home I spent the rest of the day swapping ice packs and heating pad on my neck. I did use a muscle spasm med and got slightly dizzy. Stayed in bed til that passed. This morning it is better but still has issues. Will be at chiropractor either Sunday or Monday. Yes this one offers limited weekend times.

Original plans for New Year’s Eve was to cook up the last of protein muffin batter , cook up pasta sauce with 93% lean beef to go with cheese ravioli and to put pork roast in slow cooker with some sauce for pulled pork. Got it done this afternoon. I am happy it is done. I need to haul my sad self to sewing room in basement but still using hot pad and cold packs on my neck. I do have some movement. I am making progress.

Yesterday I did weigh self and was at 210. Yes I am finally giving numbers. Most of my monthly weigh in have been 4 lbs. to recently 2 pounds per month. Slowed some since hip surgery, but still going in right direction. May everyone have a blessed new year.
