Newbie Question

Hi everyone, I am waiting for insurance approval and a surgery date for the gastric sleeve. I’ve been watching this forum for a bit before actually joining. Time to stop being a fly on the wall LOL. Question…What was the best thing you did (or could have done) in those final weeks leading up to surgery?
Thanks
Riva

Welcome Riva! The best thing that I did was make small changes gradually. Those little changes that add up to matter so much after surgery. I stopped drinking with meals, quit caffeine, tried a few protein drinks (but tastes might change after surgery so that one doesn’t always work out), cut my food smaller, and made sure my support system was ready for anything they need for themselves and me. I’m glad you found the group and joined in!

Hi, Riva. I would recommend having water on you at all times and taking small sips even when you're not thirsty. Count your bites until you get into the habit of chewing your food to mush. It makes it much easier once you move on to solid foods again and slows down the speed with which you eat, which is a great habit forever. And most importantly, start tracking your food and water intake. I use Baritastic but MyFitnessPal is also a good tracking app. Tracking water and protein are not easily done just following along in your head.

Good luck.

The above suggestions are spot on, esp sipping water all day, getting in 64-80 ozs in daily and weaning yourself off of sodas including diet sodas, juices, sugary drinks, caffeine, etc. Tiny bites and eating slowly also are helpful.
